Three cheers for the Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD) for taking the initiative to protect the rights of the public against allegedly negligent, or worse, architects and contractors who took taxpayers' money and left behind what appears to be a series of disasters in the Sechelt Aquatic Centre (Coast Reporter, Oct. 11).
There is no better place than civil court for an architectural firm and 15 contractors to answer for the claimed problems that exist in this facility. We all need to recognize that the English Common Law, the statutory law of B.C., and the contractual documents for the project, all protect our interests.
The SCRD is standing up to protect those interests. But so often it seems easier, even kinder, for us to lie down and just eat it. The SCRD's action demonstrates that when it matters, we can all be lions.
