Some compassion please

LETTERS

Re: letter regarding ferry wait times (Coast Reporter, Feb. 27).

A few weeks ago I got off the ferry as a foot passenger and was passed by people on their way to boarding before I even got to the exit. Then I met someone and picked up an important parcel that was being delivered to me. I never went more than 50 feet past the ticket booth and the whole transaction took about 30 seconds as I had planned on returning on that same ferry.

When I got to the booth I was told that the 10-minute shutdown was in effect so I would have to wait for the next ferry. Then I waited and watched, as the cars were still being loaded and then the ferry left. Why was I not allowed to run to the ferry as a foot passenger just like running to the bus stop to catch a bus that also has a schedule?

Yes the ferry must run on schedule. There are many passengers on board that demand and expect that, but if it is still there, a person should be allowed the chance to catch it as long as the timing is possible. You are allowed to run to get to your departure gate on a plane or train. They don’t hold you up unless the schedule says to go. But to have to watch others loading while you are stopped by an early foot passenger lock out is inane and just plain cruel.

Some compassion and understanding is needed before subjecting people to unnecessary hardship.
