I am a true blue community booster and shop locally regularly, especially at Christmas time.

On Dec. 3, I was completely done my Christmas shopping. Yes, I make a list. And yes, I start early — and I shop locally.

We keep our Christmas giving simple — keeping to mostly items like books, music (CDs), consumables, special Christmas tree ornaments and items to wear. We purchase things from school groups raising money such as chocolates from the Chatelech grad class and poinsettias from the Elphi grad class. We donate to local charities — a gift to family and friends who have everything. We give the gift of entertainment — tickets to a ballet or concert — on the Coast and off. I make handmade ornaments and jams. We find most everything for our friends and family right here on the Coast. When was the last time you strolled Cowrie Street or Gibsons Landing? We are so fortunate to have such unique, friendly and specialty stores on the Sunshine Coast.

I challenge everyone to do the same, and I guarantee you will find something for everyone on your Christmas list plus boost our local economy. It is a very satisfying feeling during the Christmas season.
