We were amazed by the full-page ad in the May 15 edition from the chair of the SCRD, Garry Nohr, and the shíshálh Chief, Calvin Craigan.

We attended the last meeting in Pender Harbour where Mr. Nohr and our Area A rep both told us the SCRD had not been involved in the process that led to the draft Pender Harbour Dock Management Plan, yet here he states that the SCRD wrote letters together with the Band on several occasions encouraging the government to negotiate and settle with the Band on this issue, in essence approving the Band’s sole claim to the foreshores in our area.

Shame on you for not standing up for the rest of your constituents! Your letters should have insisted on negotiations with all concerned stakeholders. Further, both you and the shíshálh have ignored the Pender Harbour Band and what their rights may be in the area.

Ours has been an area where everyone could live and pursue their dreams in peace, never intentionally infringing on their neighbours. The shíshálh have lost any support or goodwill that may have come from this area, and the SCRD is only a short step behind!
