Editor:
I would like to clarify certain aspects of the article regarding Blue Ocean Golf Club that appeared in last week’s Coast Reporter (Blue Ocean Golf Club: innovating the new marketplace). Concerns have been expressed with recent Coast Reporter articles about the Blue Ocean Golf Club and comments in the articles about council processes and the Water Resource Centre. We apologize for any misunderstanding about what was stated and wish to clarify what was meant in the articles.
In the first article insert, “Profiles of Excellence,” we were simply saying that the transition from the previous council to the new council affected the pace of our work with staff behind the scenes. We realized that briefing of council on the many aspects of the technical matters involving the hotel and golf course lands approval process was important and necessary.
In last week’s article, the author wrote that the hotel required a decision regarding water supply from the District of Sechelt. We were, in fact, discussing the planned improvements to the golf course and I remarked that nothing could move forward on the golf course renovations and landscaping until we had an assured supply of reclaimed water for irrigation, and the plan is that it would come from the Water Resource Centre. That was one of many items under discussion, and until that item is resolved there would not be any renovations to the golf course. The hotel site and golf course clubhouse are already serviced by municipal water, none of which is used to supplement the natural water supply that we use for landscaping.
I hope that clarifies the content of these comments.
