I’m sure all Canadians agree we have to have a strong response to the terror threats that are facing Canada and many other nations in the world. Unfortunately Steven Harpers’ government has over reacted and is putting the rights and freedoms of Canadians at risk.
Now environmental group who protests tankers, pipelines or tarsands can be labelled as terrorists if they interfere with the economic or financial stability of Canada or with the country’s critical infrastructure
CSIS now has greater powers to not only collect information but can disrupt the activities of suspected terrorist groups.
The RCMP was caught illegally disrupting groups and that led to the birth of CSIS. All these new powers and CSIS are monitored by a part-time, politically-appointed group of five people who put out a report once a year.
Some may say I am over reacting, but read the RCMP Intelligence assessment from Jan. 24, 2014.
They warn that foreign-funded environmental groups are bent on blocking oil sands expansion and pipeline construction and that opposition to resource development runs counter to Canada’s national interest. The RCMP have now taken a political stand on what is in our economic and national interest.
I don’t want a government that says don’t worry, trust us, if it is in the legislation it is available to be used by current and future governments.
