Prime Minister Trudeau:
My family and I are very concerned with your government’s plan to rush the arrival of 25,000 Syrian refugees to Canada by Jan. 1, 2016.
It will be impossible to screen them all securely and safely before they arrive on Canadian soil. In our view this program is ill thought out, a definite security concern, all done just to show Canada and the world that you keep your election promises, regardless how this will affect all Canadian citizens. This is particularly important now in light of the recent Paris massacre.
Also I have read that your program will cost the Canadian taxpayers about $1 billion over the next couple of years. I realize that you had promised to “spend, spend, spend” and put Canada into a deficit situation, but in our view this is bordering on fiscal suicide. Now, if you wish to spend $1 billion on foreign refugees, why not spend that amount instead on Canadians, so as to help the homeless, elderly, sick and veterans?
We understand that you wish to appear to the world in general as a great young new leader who will be a breath of fresh air, but you will find out that, first and foremost, charity starts at home.
We have talked about this amongst our friends and neighbours and the majority feel as we do, that bringing to Canada 25,000 Syrian refugees is wrong and has the distinct possibility of putting our country in an even greater danger than at present.
We urge you to rethink your promise and think more about Canadians than foreign refugees.
