Have you been following the Olympic Torch as it travels through 1,000 communities?

How can you not be impressed as each village, town or city embraces the opportunity to participate, children and seniors alike, often in frigid, snowy weather? All 12,000 torchbearers are cheered on with enthusiasm and excitement. Many of these communities are thousands of kilometres away from the Winter Games facilities.

I believe an event such as this, covering 45,000 kilometres from coast to coast to coast, truly helps develop a sense of who we are as Canadians - our identity and pride in our wonderful country. This Torch Relay response is a testament to a nation united with pride in its citizens, its athletes, its history and its place in the world.

Congratulations to all those communities that have celebrated the Olympic Torch and to those yet to join in the celebration, including Sechelt. Congratulations to all Canadians who want to celebrate living in this magical, blessed nation called Canada.
