Proposed one-way street not green-friendly

Editor: I read Doug Hockley's comments quoted in Coast Reporter (April 5) with dismay. What happened to the easy-going Doug walking his dog on the beach? I thought Mayor Henderson and council supported green initiatives.

I thought Mayor Henderson and council supported green initiatives. Why else spend money on power sources for so few electric cars?

I'm an enthusiastic bike rider and skateboarder who frequents downtown Sechelt and legally uses Cowrie Street while shopping. A one-way street with angle parking will put my safety and the safety of other bike riders at risk. So I won't be using a one-way Cowrie Street.

Public transit will not be a green option either, as it too would be going the wrong way down a one-way street. And when transit is moved to a road further from the shopping, it won't serve our residential and business community either.

If I'm forced into driving, I may as well shop elsewhere.

What is the real cost? Loss of safe, green use of Cowrie Street and loss of customers for the businesses, which we will have reduced access to.

Mayor and council: your ideas and actions are poorly thought out and costing the community.
