It is outrageous that Lower Gibsons is on Level 4 water restrictions when its aquifers are full! It sounds to me like one of those bad jokes – i.e., Did you hear the one about Lower Gibsons? They went on the most restrictive water usage in the province while their water supply was plentiful. Really? Yep, little old ladies kept the water in their bathtubs so they could use buckets of the grey water to flush their toilets. People stopped watering their outdoor plants, policed their neighbours and courageously – but unwaveringly – watched their food source of organic vegetables turn yellow and brown and die on their vines. And the reason? They were told it would be “equitable.” Though it wouldn’t make one whit of difference to the levels of the water in their aquifer or those of Chapman Creek, for that matter. I guess the best you can say is that the residents of Lower Gibsons are kind-hearted, empathic people. Just not too smart. Makes you wonder who came up with such a policy. And who agreed to it? They must take us all for fools.
By the way, Vancouver had a huge hydro outage with half a million people out of power last weekend. I’m wondering if the good folks of Lower Gibsons would like to unplug their freezers and fridges and do without their stoves and other electrical appliances? That too would be equitable. Not very helpful perhaps, but then again neither were the Level 4 water restrictions.
It’s pouring rain right now so I’m hoping all of this is a moot point. But I do ask our policy makers to use some common sense. Please take Lower Gibsons off all water restrictions. Now!
