Overwhelmed by generosity

Letters

Editor:

We are overwhelmed by the generosity of the community when it comes to putting on fundraisers.

Recently the Sunshine Coast Grandmothers and Grandothers (SCGG) hosted a couple of very successful teas with the Downton Abbey theme as our focus. If anyone watches the excellent series on PBS they will be familiar with the dress of the era, and what fun it was to get totally dressed up with hats and all. The teas were authentic with dainties served by pinafored maids and tea poured by footmen dressed in their best livery. The icing on the cake was the outstanding performances of the Driftwood Players who enhanced every event with their costumes and fun skits.

The SCGG would like to thank everyone who participated in making it possible to raise funds for the Stephen Lewis Foundation (SLF) in such a fun and entertaining way. We actually raised more than $3,000 for the SLF who will use the money to support the grassroots organizations. In this way, we assist the Grandmothers in Africa who are raising their grandchildren since their children have succumbed to the AIDS pandemic there.
