How sad I was to hear of Reg Oldershaw's passing.

Many of us have only known him as the kind, gentle and very friendly caretaker of Cliff Gilker Park. After reading his obituary this past week I now know that he had a remarkable life and served our country in a greater way, as a veteran of the Second World War.

On many evenings after walking my dog in Cliff Gilker I would see Reg preparing to "close" the park for the night and he would always ask me "Did you enjoy the park"? I would reply "Yes Reg, I sure did." One day my son left his jacket at the soccer field and he took me into room where he kept the lost and found. He told me that he understood how expensive kids sporting clothes were and he was always happy when someone was able to claim their lost belongings from the field.

His presence will be felt in the park for some time.

I suggest that the soccer community with the co-operation of the Sunshine Coast Regional District honor Reg with a bench in the park. I'm sure many of the dog walkers and park users will also support this initiative. He will be missed.
