Not the best impression

The Feb. 13 issue of Coast Reporter reported the Tim Hortons of cannabis is going to set up in Sechelt.

With some fancy stick handling, Weeds Glass and Gifts is readying a dispensary on Wharf Avenue and plans to open without a business licence.

OK, what gives? Weeds on Wharf and its head office claim it’s not a problem in Vancouver, so it’s OK in Sechelt.

Apparently operating a marijuana dispensary isn’t even legal. That’s OK too, as the proponent is trying to work with District of Sechelt, local health authorities and RCMP. But the local authorities aren’t cooperating. No problem, they’ll open up anyway and meet in court if necessary. Weeds Glass and Gifts does not appear to be the best corporate citizen.

It is reported Weeds will only sell to card carrying society members with a prescription. Another article in one of our national papers claims Weeds will be full on targeting the recreational users. Which is it?

Weeds management states patients require a storefront to buy their medicine, which includes dried buds, edibles, oils and infused juices. C’mon, this is the Sunshine Coast, and I’m pretty sure Coasters don’t really need to visit a dispensary to find such products.

But if they do, a Sunshine Coast company has already been working with the local authorities to get a dispensary approved legally. They’ve been at this tedious and complicated process for a couple years. Progress is being made, and this local business has tried to be respectful of the entire Sunshine Coast community.

The aggressive business strategies of Weeds Glass and Gifts don’t mirror the community values of the Sunshine Coast.
