New sweet spot

A couple of weeks ago, neighbours told me that the forest trail that joins Shaw Road in Upper Gibsons to Stewart Road in Lower Gibsons had changed.

I confessed that due to a pair of cranky knees I rarely walk Inglis Trail, but Gary and Joanne urged me to have a look at the new stretch, so off we went.

I couldn’t believe our good fortune. The steep hump through the mature trees remains for the vigorous fitness buff, but now, a series of long switchbacks provides a gentle alternative that almost anyone can manage.

With the new section added, people of even modest fitness can enjoy the iconic beauty of the West Coast forest as they walk from one area of Gibsons to the other. Inglis Trail is now friendly to people with young children as well as those with cranky joints.

I called the Town of Gibsons to ask who to thank for this recreation gift, and was told Dave Newman of the engineering department had spearheaded the project, and parks staff will add finishing touches soon to give the trail better footing.

Along with other forest trails in the area, Inglis is a great natural asset. I’m delighted to have yet another outdoor treat to share with friends and visitors.

To everyone involved in this trail improvement, my sincerest thanks.
