Editor:
Taylor Martin seems to have missed a few points in his letter to the editor regarding the new wastewater treatment plant (Coast Reporter, Oct. 24).
• I pay federal and provincial taxes, as well as District taxes, and I don’t like to see any of them wasted. Martin seems to think it is “free” if another government pays.
• I am told that another bid which met all the specification requirements and government regulations was priced at $18 million. The council has been careful not to reveal the competing bids.
• This plant has been built on relatively unstable ground.
• There is no provision for containing the inevitable spill.
• It is now operating and it still stinks.
• I expect the forthcoming municipal audit to reveal that Sechelt is anything but “financially healthy.”
