In effect, the last election in Gibsons was primarily about the George Hotel proposal – citizens who live in Gibsons spoke loudly to ensure we had a team in office that would move this hotel forward.

During the campaign, when Coun. White came to my house to ask for my vote, I specifically asked if he supported the George. He said yes – not a “yes but” – just an absolute yes.

Up to the present, however, Coun. White seemed to be putting up roadblocks to stall the approval process. Now he has recused himself because “the view from his house will be affected,” yet he lived in that same house while running for council. If it wasn’t an issue then, why is it now?

I went to the July 7 meeting of the Gibsons council to ask him why he has gone back on his word he gave me last November, but he wasn’t there.

My question is: does Coun. White take his elected responsibilities seriously, or is he playing games? Did he not understand the structure of the George Hotel at the time of running for council, or is he just on his own agenda?

To me, it is a matter of ethics: isn’t it time Coun. White put on his “big boy pants” and followed through on his commitments and did the job for which he was elected?
