Ferries go extra mile

Letters

Editor:

Many, if not most, Sunshine Coast residents moan and complain about Ferries. I would like to do the opposite and actually compliment two employees who went the extra mile for us.

We arrived at the Langdale terminal on Aug. 6 at 11:50 expecting to catch the 1:10 sailing. I was shocked to encounter a near full parking lot and was informed that we might not make the sailing. Near panic ensued because we had a five o’clock flight from YVR to Newfoundland.

Hearing of our dilemma, Beverley, the ramp attendant, took charge. She arranged for a truck to pick up our luggage and get it on the luggage cart and for my wife to walk onto the ferry. She reserved a parking spot, got me and my car out of the line and notified the ground crew to let me board. With no time for me to feed the meter, she arranged with Yvette, the onboard steward, to accept funds for payment of the parking fees and then left a voicemail confirming the payment.

Kudos to both.
