Developer is king

Letters

Editor:

On the first page of the Feb. 15 issue, we read about the forced and uncompensated eviction from the disastrous Seawatch development. On page 4 we learn that the province will not assist the property owners because the development had been approved by the Sechelt council. On page 5 we see that the water crisis will continue because the SCRD’s request to change the park’s boundaries has been denied. And finally, on page 10 we read that the Sechelt council has approved yet another development, this one in a steeply sloped area, a development that will require considerable blasting to smash this square peg into that very round hole. And the mayor tells us that the property is “properly zoned for a multi-family project,” as if that answered all questions.

It appears we have arrived in the land of King Developer and council members can do little more than bow and curtsy.
