Our beaches up and down the Coast have become a convenient dumpsite for every major industry, judging by the amount of debris that washes up on theshoresafter every storm. The once pristine beaches at Secret Beach and Roberts Creek are an eyesore and a hazard to anyone attempting to reach thewaterline. The massive logs are obliterating the access to the water.
There was a time when people would saw up those logs for firewood, thus removing a good part of the flotsam and making the beaches more accessible. Suddenly there are signs posted everywhere advising the public that the piles of junk wood may not be touched as they are needed to stabilize the shoreline. Just about every piece of wood that has washed uphas saw cut marks on it. Makes me wonder what stabilized the bank during those thousands of years before modern man arrived with the cross cut and chain saws.
Allowing all that driftwood to accumulate results in a hideous sight and will increase ad infinitum.
Is this how we want the world to view our pristine and rugged coast and once splendid beaches? Is this a way to promote tourism?
