How very interesting! Kudos to the shíshálh Nation’s leadership. Finally, realization of, and a proposal for, the way ahead, coming from an entity with clout, in contrast to the multi-decade gumptionless dithering of the SCRD and provincial governments.
Despite the reality of climate change, the Sunshine Coast remains a maritime temperate rainforest zone which receives, in any 12-month period, more than enough precipitation from on high. The trick, it’s not rocket science, is to capture, store, treat and deliver as much of that water as is needed, before it returns to the ocean from whence it originally came. It will be very expensive: large reservoirs, perhaps dams, treatment and delivery infrastructure, but unless there is an untapped aquifer in the area, there would appear to be no alternative. Taxpayers and other water users beware!
Leadership from the shíshálh and Squamish Nations could be a breath of fresh air on the water supply issue, in comparison to the above-mentioned SCRD Board and to our current provincial MLA and federal MP, all of whom, in my opinion, appear to be ineffectual, bordering on useless with respect to this matter.
