Letters: Moving forward together

Editor:

I was pleased to see our local disc golf scene get some publicity in the Coast Reporter last week in an article titled “Half of the Coast’s only public disc golf course to be decommissioned,” but was discouraged at some inaccuracies therein.

Most importantly, it should be stated publicly that the Sunshine Coast Disc Golf Association (SCDGA) has never cut down a single tree at Shirley Macey Park. To state otherwise is factually incorrect and is potentially damaging to our reputation as course stewards.

All of that aside, I’m happy to announce that members of the SCDGA’s board and SCRD Parks Staff have since met formally to discuss all of the issues at hand and to plan a way forward that best serves the Sunshine Coast’s growing disc golf community. Both sides recognize where they have come short in this partnership and have a renewed commitment to working together. Speaking both personally and on behalf of the entire SCDGA, I am genuinely excited for the future of this sport on the Coast like never before.
