Letters: More pedestrian safety measures needed on the Sunshine Coast

'Critically, a pedestrian crossing with flashing yellow lights should be installed at the heavily used pedestrian crossing across Highway 101 to Trail Bay Centre from the waterfront.'

It is with such great sadness that a death occurred at a crossing on Highway 101.  It spurred me to write this letter which outlines a concern I have held for some time. This letter does not at all infer causality of the accident, it is simply an observation over time of the speeding on this street and the frequent running of yellow/red lights at this intersection, especially of large trucks (logging, gravel, water, dump, etc.). When I cross at this light, I never go when the pedestrian light turns green due to this speeding and running of lights frequency.

Enforcement through red light cameras and speed indicators would be warranted and ticketing by RCMP.

Also, critically, a pedestrian crossing with flashing yellow lights should be installed at the heavily used pedestrian crossing across Highway 101 to Trail Bay Centre from the waterfront.

It is a very dangerous crossing where the hazard multiplies at dark potentially wearing dark clothing.  Let us not wait until a tragedy occurs there.
