Letters: Beyond Stonehurst

Editor:

To those who care about community. We really need to think hard about the future look, feel, and practicality of not only Gibsons as a whole, but in part. It is the sum total of all parts of Gibsons that make a true community! It is the Stonehurst (Pacific Ray Developments) project as well as those developments approved before it without, in my mind, proper consultation and due diligence, that are beginning to define our beautiful seaside community, and not always in a good way. In my, as well as many, minds, there have been so many mistakes, and right from the get-go, on so many fronts of all of these developments. This must stop now!

In the case of Stonehurst, from the magnitude in general and upper slope height and related discrepancies related to such (neighbourhood plan to OCP discrepancies), to parking, to traffic, to design concept and more, this project is not community-minded. Many believe, as do I, that this project requires more consultation before council moves forward beyond this date, period!

If this Stonehurst/Pacific Ray Developments project is allowed to go through as it is without further scrutiny/community involvement, this project could set this community up for other developers who follow, to create and push the boundaries to suit their desires, and not the community’s. This too, in light of the fact that we require an updated Official Community Plan (OCP), that both council and our mayor, know is due sooner rather than later, in order to keep all of our community’s best interests, first!

We owe this scrutiny to not only our community, but most importantly, our children. We need to build a more responsible and all-encompassing community, and ensure a future that we can all be proud of!
