Editor:
I found Bruce Milne’s contribution to letters in last week’s edition interesting. He prefaced his opinion by expressing disappointment that P.J.Reece’s opinion was published on March 17. Isn’t this what the letters to the editor column is for – to express thoughts and opinions? If everyone was of the same opinion, there would be no need for this section to be in the paper. Why does he feel his opinion should be printed yet others should be censored when all points of view should be considered?
When an opinion is offered, it can be discussed, researched, talked over with others and a conclusion reached. If there is sound reasoning and valid evidence to back up one opinion or another, then it will stand on the facts. Expressing disappointment that someone else has different thoughts is not conducive to a free and inclusive society.
