Everyone from governments to householders, businesses, firefighters and gardeners must be thinking about our late summer drought.It's a challenge, but also a way to peer into the future and change our complacency about water.Even once we get some steady rain, we need to understand issues of water collection, storage and use.Let's take this opportunity to plan changes at every level, from cloudburst and snowfall to tap and toilet.
Metered water will help, and so would home cisterns, groundwater wells, use of gray water and restricted use times. Better soil management and selective planting are ways gardeners can reduce water needs.Let's be a community thattreasures its life-sustaining water before we run dry.
