The potential to get a passenger-only ferry service in place for summer 2013 provides an opportunity that should be supported and embraced by the greater Gibsons community.
This service, targeted at Vancouverites and tourists, would expose Gibsons and the Sunshine Coast to this large market. The subsequent economic benefit would be substantial and would be spread across a broad number of businesses -not limited to hospitality and retail.
Obviously this service also provides an alternative for foot passengers from Gibsons and the Sunshine Coast with the advantage of Coal Harbour drop offs, however the potential for foot passengers coming into our market is the 'pot of gold.'
All the potential visitors are bringing 'new' dollars into our economy -and these are the hardest dollars for any economy to get. I am sure that all visitors would take away memorable experiences of the vibrant Lower Gibsons area as well as potential visits to the broader Sunshine Coast areas, telling others resulting in even more ongoing economic benefit.
I strongly encourage all of our civic leaders and the wider business community to support this venture and let's not be like the Toronto Maple Leafs and let this slip us by.
