Re: Oct. 2 article about possible changes to the Pender Harbour landfill.

It is correct that the evidence presented at the Sunshine Coast Regional District (SCRD) board meeting in Pender Harbour on Sept. 24 was very persuasive in favour of the transfer station option. This was reflected in the closing remarks made by board members. However, we have not yet decided whether all the information has been collected. Until we make that decision and take a vote on which option to pursue, directors' minds remain open.

The SCRD board appreciates the sensitive nature of this project for the people of Pender Harbour and we are committed to continuing our very full investigation before any final decisions are made.

At the top of our considerations are the environmental issues as well as the cost of each option. We are expecting a staff report at the infrastructure services committee meeting on Nov. 5.

This report will contain recommendations for next steps, which may include more detailed canvassing of the residents of Pender Harbour, as well as the cost and human resource implications versus the benefits of conducting a more definitive survey in the area.

Thank you for your ongoing coverage of this issue and its long range implications.
