The world's most liveable community needs a liveable planet.

On Saturday, Oct. 24, at noon in Gibsons' Winegarden Park, Sunshine Coast residents can join people from 160 countries involved in over 4,000 actions worldwide to send this message to decision makers: it is time for serious action to lower CO2 levels in the atmosphere to 350 parts per million.

This will be the most widespread day of climate action ever. Its aim is to send a charge into this December's United Nations climate meetings in Copenhagen.

Participants will assemble to form the number 350. Our community photo will be taken and delivered with thousands of similar images from around the world to the media and world leaders. United, we will show just how big, beautiful and unified the climate movement really is.

The worldwide event will deliver one simple and powerful message: 350 parts per million CO2 in the atmosphere is the level we must have for a planet similar to the one on which civilization developed and to which life on earth is adapted. We are now at 390, rising two parts per million a year.

Participants are encouraged wear colourful clothing or rain gear and to car pool, use public transit or bike to this event if possible.

This event is sponsored by Gibsons Landing Community Association, Sun-shine Coast Teachers' Association, United Church, Canada World Youth, students at Elphinstone Secondary, Sea to Sky Outdoor School, Sun-shine Coast Conservation Association and a variety of concerned citizens, including Gibsons Cares, an ad-hoc committee convened by local citizens and community groups concerned about climate change.
