Sunshine Coasters will join millions around the world in the Global Climate March in Vancouver at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 29 starting from the Vancouver Art Gallery on Georgia Street.

These marches will occur just hours before world leaders meet at the UN Paris Climate Summit – COP21. Concerned citizens will fill their streets in some 2,000 marches around the world, setting out people-powered demands for the world we want and need. The key demands will be that COP21 come up with a treaty strong enough to keep the carbon in the ground and inclusive of financial arrangements for a transition to a clean energy future that is fair to all.

To let the world know that Canada is again prepared to accept our global responsibilities, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has invited the provincial and territorial premiers as well as federal opposition leaders to join him at the Paris Climate Summit.

The Coastal Climate Convergence, a new citizens action group including the Alliance 4 Democracy, Sunshine Coast Conservation Association, Sunshine Coast Community Solar Association and the Sunshine Coast Senior Citizens, invites Sunshine Coasters to join the march in Vancouver. We are arranging with West Vancouver Transit to schedule extra Blue Buses to transport people from Horseshoe Bay to downtown Vancouver from both the 8:50 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Langdale-to-Horseshoe Bay sailings, and take them back to Horseshoe Bay for either the 5:30 or 7:30 p.m. sailings to Langdale.

Your participation in the Global Climate March Vancouver will help send a strong message to our representatives in Paris that Canadians care deeply about our planet and that we expect Canada to take a bold leadership role in addressing climate change both at home and internationally.
