Insult to Canadians

I am dismayed, disgusted actually, by the inclusion of such contributions to our local paper. Both of these pieces are an insult to Canadians who consider themselves part of a multi-cultural country, founded by people of many different countries and cultures, including all of the First Nations of Canada. There is not one reference to Aboriginal culture. This sort of coverage leaves me disheartened and embarrassed.

Surely there are more inclusive, realistic descriptions of what makes Canada’s history so interesting. Next time there is an opportunity to provide an educational eye to our shared history and culture, I urge you to search a little further than what seems to me a paltry, glossy piece of elementary curriculum from eras past. This is the 21st century. Imagine the potential of Canada Day celebrations when all voices are heard and when all citizens are recognized.
