I read with interest in the May 8 Coast Reporter the update regarding SSC Properties plans for their proposed development of the Porpoise Bay site in east Porpoise Bay.

As current chairman of the board of governors of the Gibsons Public Market (another economic development and socially responsible initiative on the Coast) and a member of the Humphries family, who have been living on the Sunshine Coast for close to 80 years, I am truly passionate about creating opportunities here on the Coast that provide for economic development opportunities that are environmentally sustainable, make economic sense and provide opportunities for our future generations to stay on the Coast and enjoy this incredible lifestyle we are so fortunate to have.

I have visited the property and simply cannot believe the natural beauty of this precious jewel so close to the village of Sechelt. The concept of a mixed use development with an international school, seniors housing and a boutique hotel and conference centre, among other components on this huge 160 hectares of property, provides an unprecedented opportunity to allow Sechelt and the Sunshine Coast to combine their expertise to build, enjoy and showcase this unique development — unparalleled in the Pacific Northwest.

There is an enormous opportunity here to provide a fabulous legacy for the future. I want to thank the founders for their initiative in this regard, and I urge the community to get involved with their input and support so that all concerned can make this a reality.
