I have lived in Davis Bay for over 12 years and have seen many changes in that time. The seawall has been one of the better changes to our community, and hopefully, the Mission Point Park will be another.

But the traffic over the years has increased to the point of being ridiculous, and I have witnessed many accidents on our small stretch of highway. The proposed highway changes will do nothing to resolve these problems. A traffic light will stop traffic, but the crosswalk should do that already.

What is really needed are either more crosswalks in Davis Bay to slow down the traffic or, of course, the infamous bypass.

I found Coun. Alice Lutes comment about "never going to lose traffic in Davis Bay because it is so beautiful" a bit out of touch, since if this were the case, ferry traffic would still be driving through Lower Gibsons for the view.

I wonder if anyone has stopped to consider what would happen if the old bridge spanning Chapman Creek ever failed? No one on this Coast would be able to access the hospital. Nor would anyone living beyond that point be able to get to their homes. At a presentation given by the District of Sechelt planning department at the Davis Bay Community Hall last year, the people of Davis Bay were advised that our road would soon be over capacity and, in fact, fail in eight years. For these very important safety reasons, the bypass is needed - and it is needed now.

Therefore, I support Council's decision to scrap MOTI's forced mini-project and tell them if they really want to fix the situation to come up with a few more dollars to build a bypass.
