I was pleased to see Gordon Politeski defending GMOs as environmentally friendly (letters, Coast Reporter, Oct. 18).
I agree that they are a safe and practical method to produce food.
An excellent book, which presents arguments for genetically engineered food and nuclear energy and densifying cities as means of allaying the catastrophe of global warming, is Whole Earth Discipline by Stuart Brand. He is the creator of the Whole Earth Catalog, the Well and the Long Now Foundation and he worked as a special adviser to Jerry Brown when he was the governor of California.
His book is well worth reading for those who are interested in challenging ideas and is available in the local library.
