Having read Jacob Roberts’ article in your last issue regarding the latest Gibsons council meeting that was predominantly concerning the George (“George receives minor redesign”), I was mystified as to why Mr. Roberts failed to report on one of the most significant events of the evening.

A petition was presented to council. The petition read: “We, the undersigned residents and/or business owners of Gibsons, remind council that they were elected by a majority of residents because we thought each councillor understood the imperative for a broad tax base to fund infrastructure, social and environmental needs; and recognized that the economy and jobs contribute to a healthy and sustainable community. In order to fulfill the expectations of the majority of the electorate, we call for the council to proceed, without any further delays, in the approval process and confirm construction of the George Hotel and Residences as currently designed, while protecting the aquifer and meeting all regulatory requirements.”

This petition was signed by over a thousand qualified residents of Gibsons.

Mr. Roberts covered all of the other items discussed yet inexplicably decided not to bring this important and relevant piece of news to the public’s attention.
