Re: "Sechelt council considers allowing bow hunting of elk" (Coast Reporter, Feb. 5).

How can Darryl Rey-nolds say "hunting in this case is not about killing animals, it's about harassing?" You wound an animal with an arrow but not kill it then leave it in pain and agony - is this humane? A wounded wild animal is dangerous. How about the safety of the people?

In Pender Harbour it is known that some of these animals wandered around for days in pain with an arrow sticking out of them. We live in 2010, not the Dark Ages.

Take some lessons from the successful Whistler RCMP. They use rubber bullets and guns that shoot fireworks and lots of noise to scare bears. So why don't we try this with our elk? It's high time these scare tactics get used on the Sunshine Coast after so many unnecessary killings.

The Coast is lucky to have wildlife as neighbours, so if you want a garden you must erect a high fence to protect it. Is nature not the reason we live here and not in the big city?

I count on Sechelt council not to consider, but to scratch it off the agenda.
