Editor:
I am writing to let you know how upset and disappointed I am in your article about the Torch Relay and in Brent Richter's opinion column to go with it (Coast Reporter, Feb. 12).
From Sechelt to Lang-dale, your article begins, carrying the torch is a once in a lifetime experience, something each torchbearer should cherish always. According to Brent Richter, those people who carried the torch in Pender and Madeira didn't even exist.
It saddens me, but I totally understand why you would not come that far north to begin your coverage of the relay, when it went by van from Madeira to Sechelt. I also understand why you would write about what you covered exclusively, but not even to mention this part of the relay is wrong.
It has always been true that the Harbour gets less coverage than elsewhere. I accept that as the inevitable result of living farther from the core of Coast, but this time, you are directly affecting young people who deserve better. My daughter, one of the runners who got to run in front of the torch coming down the hill into Madeira from the Harbour, has been anxiously waiting to see mention in the paper, and she was not even a torchbearer.
Please remember there is more to the Sunshine Coast than the area that goes from Sechelt to Langdale.

Editor's note: Coast Reporter's two-week coverage of the relay was extensive. Pender Harbour was covered in the Feb. 5 RBC relay gala story and was covered in our on-line photo galleries both weeks.
