Editor:
I am impressed with the shíshálh Nation lands and resources decision-making policy (Coast Reporter, June 14), but I am dismayed by an inconsistency.
The document says, on the one hand: "The history of decision-making in shíshálh territory since contact with Europeans includes a legacy of denial, disrespect precisely the opposite of this legacy is now expected."
Yet, when asked by our MLA, Nicholas Simons, whether non-Band citizens would be asked for their opinion on proposed land developments, Jasmine Paul, director of rights and title department, said, "Not at this time."
Well, what's it gonna be? Either we talk, or we don't. It's pretty simple, really.
