I appreciated the letter submitted by Joyce Rigaux, John Rayment, Colleen Haynes and Bruce Haynes in regard to illegal dumping (“Action needed on illegal dumping,” Sept. 25).
I had the opportunity to join the SCRD-sponsored Trash Bash cleanup in the old mine site area. We took two huge loads to the dump from the few spots we got to.
It is such a beautiful area with amazing views of the inlet and dramatic cliffs. I went back the next day with my son and grandsons just to hike a bit.
Education, signage, and other preventive measures should be considered.
I would also encourage the SCRD to do more regular spot checks and to lead the development of a group of interested citizens who would go in once a month to clean up. An email tree to set dates and times, an SCRD or Sechelt truck and coordination with the dump are probably all that’s needed.
