Last Monday, the Conservative Member of Parliament for West Vancouver - Sunshine Coast - Sea to Sky Country spoke in the House of Commons about the oil spill in English Bay. His words are flagrantly contradicted by his government’s behaviour
Our MP stated: “World class means continuous improvement. It means daring to look at the best practices from around the world to adapt them and make them particularly Canadian.”
Yet Prime Minister Harper celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Canadian Coast Guard by slashing its budget.
Harper refused to honour a Canadian petition for a parliamentary enquiry into 9/11 though Canada has spent $92 billion fighting the war on terror (as of 2011 according to the Rideau Institute).
The Sunshine Coast Peace Group has repeatedly called for the government to reveal the cost of the war and the number of civilian and military casualties. It has refused to do so.
It is time our MP addresses these issues in a forthright way.
