Editor:
In our recent 2014 strategic planning session, the Sunshine Coast Clean Air Society (SCCAS) named mitigating industrial pollution as a top priority.
To that end, we fully support the Sunshine Coast Regional District’s (SCRD) opposition to development of waste incineration facilities in Port Mellon, as outlined by SCRD chair Gary Nohr in his letter to the editor in the Oct. 31 edition of Coast Reporter.
As Mr. Nohr pointed out, responsible waste management focuses on reducing, reusing and recycling. Landfill, not incineration, is a last resort.
The SCCAS is actively pursuing funds for projects that will enable us to monitor and improve air quality on the Sunshine Coast and adjacent areas. Those interested in volunteering with one of the Sunshine Coast’s most active environmental organizations are invited to contact us through our website at cleanaironthecoast.com. Membership is free and positions on our board of directors are open.
