Re: “Open-air burn request granted” (Coast Reporter, Dec. 19)
We would like to clarify that the Sunshine Coast Clean Air Society did not and does not support the open burn ban exemption requested by Daniel Cloutier.
We were asked to support this in 2014 and declined. We do not support the open burning of biomass and have worked extensively with local governments to have the practice banned. The smoke produced from these burns is a health hazard to the community and all efforts should be made to find alternate solutions. We do support alternate solutions such as composting. Salish Soils provides an excellent facility for composting green waste.
