Some members of a strata complex in Gibsons recently completed a seven-session workbook on transitioning from fossil fuels in the small ways we are able. We met at each other’s houses, had lots of fun and the results have been quite impressive. One member of the group no longer needs a garbage bin – she recycles and composts so much of her waste each week. Another family’s use of hydro is down by 20 per cent simply by doing easy things daily such as unplugging the power bars on the wall each night and switching to LED light bulbs.

As we make our own small daily steps to shift our behaviour as the climate crisis becomes clearer, we really need the government to get on board and take leadership in a green economy and not just give us lip service.
