In my role as a tourist ambassador to the Coast, I’m often the first person to say “that wouldn’t happen on the Coast” or “no need to alarm the car, we all leave our keys in them here.”
Imagine my surprise then, to return from a quick swim at Secret Beach off Gower Point Road, only to find my little piece of Italian history all scratched and dented up.
On the evening of Monday, June 29, at about 8:30 p.m., a small black pick-up truck reversed over my immaculate and bright red Vespa motor scooter, causing considerable damage. A local witnessed the accident but could only recall the first two letters of the licence plate, being HX, and the driver as a white Caucasian man of about 30 years old.
RCMP, ICBC and I, the scooter owner, are all hoping that the driver in the hit and run accident will come forward and admit responsibility.
The man had the decency to return the scooter to its upright position, but neglected to contact the owner, whose company decals for Up the Creek Backpackers adorn the side of the scooter.
If you know anything about this incident, please call the local RCMP at 604-885-2266.
