So, Brad Benson wants to cry because of the “George nightmare” (Letters, July 10).
Not surprising, really, as life has been difficult recently for him and his small group of highly vocal, anti-progress people, several of whom do not even live in Gibsons.
Every step of the way, they have tried to disrupt the George Hotel proposal. Recently, however, events have been “conspiring” against them:
• Residents voted overwhelmingly in last November’s election for a council that would embrace positive change.
• Due process is being followed in moving the George proposal through the development permit process.
• When ready, the proposal will be presented at a public hearing for community comment.
• After that public hearing – and based on the community comment – council will make the final decision to approve or not.
In short, the George Hotel proposal is being handled by Mayor Rowe and council as it should be: in accordance with the provincial Community Charter.
Little wonder that Brad Benson has his “nightmare;” he and his group have been unable to derail the process, and the final decision will be based, as it should be, on the wishes of the whole community, not on the clamouring of this small minority group.
