Accusations unfounded

Editor: Whenever a subject arises that has opposing viewpoints, whether it’s The George or cutting down trees, people think it’s OK to call into question the objectivity of the engineer presenting his report without any basis for the accusation.

Whenever a subject arises that has opposing viewpoints, whether it’s The George or cutting down trees, people think it’s OK to call into question the objectivity of the engineer presenting his report without any basis for the accusation. It’s a serious charge against an engineer and can ruin a man’s reputation. So how about we stop doing it, and I won’t question one’s lack of training in the particular subject or one’s ability to say any stupid thing you wish without consequence.

For the record, all the engineering consultants involved in The George on all “sides” are good at their jobs, so if you have the need to criticize their work, make sure you provide the basis for that criticism and your qualifications to do so. And yes, I’m a grumpy old engineer and this is my personal opinion not based on any form of scientific study.
