The current smoke and ash pollution in Gibsons from various places, including possibly the Island, the Squamish area, and West Sechelt, is a sign for all to notice.

Bad as the smoke and ash are, imagine not being able to actually see the particulate that would be delivered to Gibsons, and other areas of the Sunshine Coast, should an incinerator be allowed to be developed in either Port Mellon or Nanaimo/Duke Point, as proposed by Metro Vancouver to burn their garbage.

Fortunately, we elected a mayor and council last November, all of whom posted “selfies” which said “No to Incinerators” and, additionally, were signed up members to Zero Waste Canada, prior to the election.

The opposition during that election, who gained only 29 per cent of the electoral votes between the five of them, have never, never come out against the incinerator proposal and, instead, concentrate on outlining false rumours, pretending to be statements of fact, about the “George.” Worse, they continue their attempts to intimidate residents and business owners who have the sand to come out in support of staff and council properly deliberating upon the “George” proposal.
