The natural beauty of Howe Sound and surrounding area is self-evident, and it seems to us that the vast majority of people living in this area want the same thing: to preserve, share and enjoy this great resource.
In the face of the industrial LNG plant proposal (from a Singapore company), we suggest that preserving the west shoreline of Howe Sound as a provincial park is a far better option, as it would promote the sustainable (and profitable) industry of tourism.
Building a 33-km road between Squamish and Port Mellon would effectively expand the Sea to Sky tourism corridor from Whistler to the Sunshine Coast.
Designating a provincial park would guarantee a natural future for this awesome part of the land and sea, right in our backyard.
It’s so obvious you may wonder why it is not already in place. In the words of Charles R. Swindol: “We’re all faced with a series of great opportunities brilliantly disguised as impossible situations.”
