Two Sechelt residents found a large volume of bound newspapers under a bench in Teredo Square in Sechelt on the evening of Thursday, Aug. 20. The newspapers are copies of the New York Herald dated Jan. 1 to April 30, 1897. A sticker on the inside cover shows the volume belongs to the Haverhill City Library, Massachusetts.

Rather than leave the book out in the open, they took it home and then brought to the Sechelt Public Library last Monday, Aug. 24. It is now in the Sechelt Community Archives room in the library.

An email has been sent to the Haverhill Library's Special Collections Depart-ment, but no reply has been received to date.

How did this volume end up in Sechelt? Does anyone have information about this 112-year-old volume of newspapers?
