I have a few simple questions for our member of Parliament John Weston: why did you vote no to science and technology critic Kennedy Stewart's following motion?

"That, in the opinion of the House, public science, basic research, and the free and open exchange of scientific information are essential to evidence-based policy-making; federal government scientists must be enabled to discuss openly their findings with their colleagues and the public; the government should maintain support for its basic scientific capacity across Canada, including immediately extending funding, until a new operator is found, to the world-renowned Experimental Lakes Area Research Facility to pursue its unique research program."

Why has this government repeatedly stated that science plays an important role in government decision-making and then seems to act against that statement?

Can you please give an answer, not a formal template one, though, something that can explain the reason for your vote?
