A case of the bird flu?

We moved here eight years ago and had mice in the house, rats in the woodpile and squirrels in the garage.

Not long after that, while our 14-year-old cat spent her daytime hours outdoors, there were no mice in the house, no rats in the woodpile, and the squirrels were back up in the trees. These rodents carry disease, leave droppings everywhere, chew wires and are a general nuisance.

Yes, the cats do catch birds as well, but birds have an unlimited food supply (thanks to humans). Therefore, they are able to reproduce in such numbers that their population isn't reduced.

Also, I have never heard of anyone contracting the cat flu. But, I am hearing a lot about the bird flu.
